Central Greenock project diversion routes announced

Inverclyde Council has announced diversion routes ahead of the £24m Central Greenock redevelopment, which will begin main roadworks in spring 2026 and run until autumn 2027. The project includes demolishing Hector McNeil House, part of the Oak Mall, the Bullring Roundabout and the A78 flyover, alongside new junctions, pedestrian crossings, public spaces and a new Oak Mall entrance.

To manage disruption, alternative routes have been set up for traffic bypassing the town centre or travelling through Greenock, with improvements such as mini-roundabouts, road realignments and new pedestrian crossings already in place. Contractors start on site on 6 February 2026, with town centre access maintained throughout. Some parking restrictions and entrance closures at the Oak Mall will begin at the same time, though most entrances will remain open, and a public information session is scheduled for 11 February 2026.

A public information session is scheduled for 11 February 2026.
