Inverclyde Council faces an £8.6m funding gap over the next two years and is asking residents for feedback on proposed savings, council tax increases, and fees & charges.
Proposals include potential cuts such as:
Library closures
Ending free swimming and some leisure services
Reductions to employability support, community wardens, CCTV, street cleaning and events
Changes to school transport, Active Schools, music tuition and youth services
If all savings were taken, around 70 jobs could be lost, with total proposed savings of £4.1m.
Residents are also being consulted on council tax increases of 5%, 7.5% or 10%, and smaller rises in some non-statutory fees.
The public consultation is open until 9 February 2026
