Award Winning Charity Compassionate Inverclyde relaunches with a community focus

Compassionate Inverclyde is a community-based organisation dedicated to fostering a compassionate society in Inverclyde. This award-winning social movement aims to empower individuals to make a positive impact on their communities.

Funded for two years by The National Lottery Community Fund Scotland, Compassionate Inverclyde brings together volunteers, community groups, and local
businesses to create a supportive network where people can connect, share, and help one another. The organisation’s people-centred approach focuses on the
unique needs and strengths of individuals, families, and communities.

Ultimately, Compassionate Inverclyde seeks to create a society where caring for others is a shared responsibility. By empowering ordinary people to make a
difference, the organisation is working towards a more compassionate and inclusive future.

Through a diverse range of initiatives, Compassionate Inverclyde empowers people of all ages to contribute meaningfully. Some of these initiatives include:

  • No One Dies Alone (NODA): Providing comfort and companionship to individuals and families facing the final days of life. Since it’s launch in 2017, the program has supported 157 patients in Inverclyde. Our volunteers have dedicated 4,852 hours to ensure that no one in our community faces their final moments alone.
  • Back Home Visitors and boxes/ Palliative Care Companions: Offering friendship and support to those experiencing loneliness or isolation, including elderly individuals nearing the end of life, and those returning home from hospital. An extraordinary 4,995 ‘Back Home Boxes’ have been issued to those returning home from the hospital alone since 2017. Boxes include provisions for a hot drink and light snack for a couple of days, a kindness token, a blanket + a card from a young person.
  • New Mum Companions: New Mum Companions offer support, friendship, and practical help to mothers struggling with isolation. The programme focus’ on mothers who lack support networks. The goal is to help mums feel connected to their communities and strengthen their bonds with their children.
  • Jolly Boxes Initiative: This heartwarming initiative ensures festive gift boxes for hospital patients spending Christmas away from home. Filled with thoughtful items like Christmas decorations, chocolates, and personalised cards, they aim to bring joy and cheer to those who may be feeling isolated. Since 2020, Compassionate Inverclyde has issues 2,643 Jolly Boxes to patients.
  • Social Hubs: Compassionate Inverclyde's weekly Friendship Hubs, which originated from a Bereavement Café, and a fortnightly Singing Group provide a welcoming and inclusive space for individuals to connect, socialise, and enjoy a hot meal. These volunteer-led initiatives offer a vital lifeline for those who may feel isolated or lonely.
