Tribute to former provost David Roach

Tribute has been paid to former Provost David Roach, who has died.

Mr Roach was provost from 1999 until 2003 and served as a councillor from 1980 until his retirement in 2007.

Provost Drew McKenzie said: "I'm very sorry to hear of the passing of former Provost David Roach.

"David was first elected to Inverclyde District Council in May 1980 and served through until his retirement from Inverclyde Council in May 2007.

"He held many roles during his local government career but most notably as Provost from 1999 to 2003.

"While I never had the pleasure of working with David, I'm reliably informed that he never lost his temper because he believed the person who lost their temper lost the argument.

"Those are wise words.

"David was a great ambassador for Inverclyde.

"On behalf of the council and people of Inverclyde, I send my condolences to David's wife Heather, his family, and his many friends."
