A new EU Citizens in Scotland campaign has been launched this week which aims to ensure all EU citizens know how to prove their immigration status and to outline further support to EU citizens living in Scotland following the EU Settlement Scheme deadline on 30 June 2021.

The main purpose of the campaign is to:

• Help EU citizens in Scotland understand how to use the ‘view and prove’ service
• Direct vulnerable citizens to support services

Support for employers

All EU citizen employees must have immigration leave and the right to work. This may be through the:

• EU Settlement Scheme (for EU/EEA/Swiss citizens who lived in the UK by 31 December 2020) or
• The new immigration rules (for EU/EEA/Swiss citizens who arrived in the UK after 31 December 2020)

Many businesses may find themselves having to navigate the new immigration rules for the first time in order to recruit staff from EU countries. Immigration is a very complex legal area, and support is available to help Scottish-based SMEs to understand and navigate the UK immigration system.
