A consultation about the future leadership of a Greenock nursery has launched.

Inverclyde Council wants people to share their views on how Blairmore Nursery should be run following the retirement of the head teacher in August 2022.

A temporary head teacher is in place for the current 2022/23 session until a decision is made on how it should operate in future.

There are three options being considered with people being encouraged to have their say via a public consultation which has launched and will run until 18 November 2022.

The proposals are as follows:

• The nursery school remains as a standalone nursery school and a replacement head teacher is recruited;
• The nursery school is incorporated into All Saints Primary School as a nursery class under the leadership of the head teacher of the primary school;
• The nursery school becomes a standalone early learning centre under the leadership of the head of the centre.

Councillor Jim Clocherty, Inverclyde Council’s convener of education and communities, said: “We want to make sure the new leadership model reflects the needs of the communities that Blairmore Nursery serves so that’s why this consultation has been launched to gauge the views of those who are directly affected.

“It’s important that people take this opportunity to help shape the future of the nursery in what is a close-knit area and help us to ensure the correct decision is made that best meets the needs of families and young people.

“The consultation should take no longer than a few minutes to complete and I encourage anyone with a vested interest in the future of Blairmore Nursery to make their voice heard.”

The early years centre shares a campus with All Saints Primary in the east end of Greenock.

Blairmore provides early learning and childcare for 72 children aged 3-5 and 15 children aged 2–3.

Family support services are also provided within the school and the community.
