SCC Host International Roundtable With Scottish Labour

Scottish Chambers International Trade Director, Seona Shand, facilitated a roundtable discussion this morning with the Leader of Scottish Labour, Anas Sarwar MSP, and Daniel Johnson MSP, Scottish Labour spokesperson on the economy and finance.

The meeting was attended by over 30 businesses from across Scotland who wanted to highlight some of the challenges faced when trying to internationalise.

The discussion focussed on the shortage of skills including affordability and security, inward investment, strengthening of transport links, reducing red tape and barriers, and the importance of giving Scottish businesses the confidence to enter new global markets.

There have been significant challenges in the economy over the past few years and Scotland is performing well, compared to the rest of the UK in terms of exports but this is critical to our economic strength.

The Scottish Chambers of Commerce Network continues to work hard for all businesses in Scotland to be part of a successful trading nation – regardless of industry sector, size, or market.

We’ve run over 100 international trade missions in the past three years, working with around 1,000 businesses.  As markets continue to open, the increased demand for products and services in a global market will only increase and we’ll continue to provide support wherever we can.
