Excitement As New Coffee Roasting Business Launches In Port Glasgow

A new food and drink enterprise is celebrating after opening its doors in Port Glasgow.

Downriver Coffee Roasters was established by New Yorker Ryan Casey in 2024 as a specialty coffee roasting and supplying business.

The business prides itself on its beans being speciality grade, ethically sourced, and fully traceable, making it good in more ways than one.

Ryan relocated to Inverclyde with her wife during the COVID-19 pandemic and began working towards her lifelong aim of opening the business.

Downriver gets its name from its position on the Clyde and is proudly based at Kelburn Business Park in Inverclyde, having searched for the right property for some time.

Speaking of the new business, Ryan said: “It is fantastic to finally have my unit after years of hard work and research to get to this point, and to have something of this calibre is a dream come true.

“Back in the USA, I'd worked as a barista while completing my undergrad and learned about quality and social responsibility in coffee from my cafe's wholesale partner, Counter Culture.

“That knowledge, passion, and curiosity has always stayed with me.”

Ryan took a long-term lease for the 1,750 square foot unit at Kelburn Business Park at the end of 2023, with support provided by Rebecchi Architectural to help gain a building warrant to adapt the property accordingly to be able to roast the coffee beans.

“Launching the business in Port Glasgow has been a great move and having searched for a base for so long it is a relief to now be fully operational” Ryan continued.

“I’ve had fantastic support from so many people including our friends and family, with a healthy level of early interest in our wide range of coffee and I hope lots of people will come to our launch event and try our coffees.”

“I believe speciality coffee is for everyone. I want to be an advocate for positive change in our own community and across the coffee supply chain by building meaningful connections through coffee.”

“I’d like to thank both our landlords and Bowman Rebecchi for all of their support in making this possible.”

The new tenancy represents the latest successful letting for Inverclyde property firm, Bowman Rebecchi as it continues to grow its presence across the west coast of Scotland.

Andrew Bowman, Director of Bowman Rebecchi, said: “Congratulations to Ryan on the new premises and the business is a warm and welcome addition to the mix of existing businesses at Kelburn Business Park".

“Our client has done a fantastic job with the unit allowing Ryan to come in and adapt it according to her needs and her passion for coffee is clear to see".

“We would like to wish Downriver every success and we expect the business to have a promising future.”

Ryan is hosting a launch party on Friday 8th March at 6pm which anyone is free to attend.

Downriver Coffee Roasters is based at Unit 12, Kelburn Industrial Estate, Port Glasgow PA14 5TD.
