Inverclyde Chamber Joins Forces With Ocean Youth Trust

Inverclyde Chamber of Commerce set sail on a whole new kind of business breakfast to raise awareness of a young person’s charity.

The chamber team joined forces with Ocean Youth Trust to host an event on board Alba Venturer and invited business leaders across Inverclyde to come along.

Ocean Youth Trust helps young people develop a whole range of life skills through taking part in activities on working vessels.

CEO Hazel Wiseman says activities help young people build their self-confidence, social skills, and team-working skills and give them a ‘sense of community’.

Inverclyde MP Ronnie Cowan popped in to see the team and found out more about the trust.

He added: “By utilising sailing, the trust provides opportunities for young people to expand their lived experience.

“The STEM subjects [science, technology, engineering and mathematics] are crucial in helping young people develop new skills.”

The Chamber’s membership engagement manager, Shari Workman said: “The experience, life skills, and educational opportunities Ocean Youth Trust offers have a huge impact on the lives of young people, and on our community as a whole.”
