Inverclyde Council – Industrial Action Update

The Council’s advice on upcoming industrial action has been updated at www.inverclyde.gov.uk/industrialaction

The following updates have been included for the upcoming waste and recycling strike:

Commercial waste
Commercial waste collections will be suspended. Please do not put your bins out.

In addition, the Council has been formally notified by Unison of strike action at schools and early years centres.  The letter below is being issued this afternoon (23 August 2022) to parents and carers of young people across Inverclyde to give them advance notice to help plan ahead for potential industrial action:

We have been notified today of strike action that will affect schools and early years centres in Inverclyde. The trade union involved is Unison and this primarily affects non-teaching staff in schools.

The strike will take place on Tuesday 6, Wednesday 7 and Thursday 8 September 2022.

We anticipate that this will cause disruption in most of our schools and early years’ centres. While some will inevitably be closed for service, others may be able to open. If a school is able to open for teaching then there may be disruption to the service that the school will be able to offer e.g. limited school meals. The service we are able to provide will be different depending on each school or early years’ centre and may be subject to unavoidable changes as more information is known.

We are giving you this notification as early as possible so that you can plan ahead for any potential disruption. At this stage we expect that almost all of our early years’ centres and specialist additional support needs (ASN) services will not be able to open to pupils on these days.

We are having regular meetings with heads of establishments and your child’s school or centre will be in contact with you to let you know the arrangements for your child’s school or setting as soon as they know.

Changes to Council services affected by industrial action will be published at www.inverclyde.gov.uk/industrialaction during strikes.
