Scottish Government Back Calls Of Chamber Members For Emergency Business Support

In a letter to the UK Government Secretary of State for BEIS, Deputy First Minister John Swinney has urged the UK Government to back the calls of the Scottish Chambers of Commerce Network for urgent support to tackle the cost of doing business crisis.

Among the measures highlighted by Mr Swinney in his letter are:

  • An energy price cap for SMEs
  • VAT reduction on business energy bills
  • Expansion of the shortage occupation list
  • Reducing VAT on energy bills
  • Pausing the National Insurance increase and implementation of the Social Care Levy.

SCC President, Stephen Leckie (pictured), met with DFM John Swinney today (25th August 2022) to press the case for both the Scottish & UK Government to take immediate action and provide businesses with crucial support.

Stephen Leckie will also be appearing on BBC Scotland’s The Nine programme (airing at 7pm this evening) to outline the support that businesses urgently need.
