Social Justice Secretary Visits Home-Start to Support Child Poverty Initiatives

Inverclyde is taking significant steps to reduce child poverty and support families in need. Social Justice Secretary Shirley-Anne Somerville recently visited Home-Start Renfrewshire and Inverclyde in Greenock to see first-hand how local efforts are making a meaningful difference.

Home-Start Renfrewshire and Inverclyde have been working in partnership with Inverclyde Council to deliver the Child Poverty Practice Accelerator Fund and the Fairer Futures Partnership. Through these initiatives, families are receiving vital support to increase their income, access essential services, and improve overall well-being.

During the visit, the Social Justice Secretary met with staff and families who have benefited from these efforts. She praised the collaborative work being done to not only support families in crisis but to also equip them with the tools to thrive long-term.

A spokesperson from Home-Start Renfrewshire and Inverclyde highlighted the importance of community engagement:

"Providing a safe space for families to share their views on the issues affecting them is an important part of the work we do, and we are incredibly grateful to those that shared their stories."

This partnership reflects the power of collaboration between local authorities and community organisations in creating long-term solutions to child poverty. By working together, these initiatives are ensuring that families receive the tailored support they need to build a better future.
