TWO Greenock community centres are in line for upgrades under plans by Inverclyde Council.
The local authority has secured Scottish Government grants to carry out improvements to Grieve Road Community Hall while a bid has been made for funding to modernise Auchmountain Community Hall.
Updates on the projects were provided at the latest meeting of the council’s education and communities committee on Tuesday 2 September 2025.
The local authority has secured £700,000 from the government’s Early Adopter Communities initiative to extend Grieve Road Community Hall to develop a community-based childcare centre that will benefit the most vulnerable families.
A similar project has been successfully launched at Boglestone Community Centre in Port Glasgow, known as the BHive, which opened in May 2025 supported by a £500k government grant to upgrade a section of the centre.
A bid has also been submitted to the government’s regeneration capital grant fund to modernise Auchmountain Hall by adding a new extension and a play area at the back of the site and a decision is due in the coming weeks.
If successful, the project would move to the second stage of the bidding process.
Councillor Jim Clocherty, convener of the education and communities committee, said: “We know how important community facilities are and we work closely with community groups to ensure centres as the best they can be and that they are delivering for the people who rely on them.
“It’s through those close partnerships that we can identify areas where improvements can be made and tap into national funding streams to allow us to not only upgrade facilities but add new dimensions to them to enhance the existing offer.
“The successful BHive project at Boglestone is a perfect example of that by reviving under-utilised parts of the centre to offer new services that complement existing facilities already on offer within the building to support families in upper Port Glasgow.
“I look forward to seeing how these latest projects at Grieve Road and Auchmountain progress over the coming months.”
