Senior council figures have given a warm welcome to the new head of the Inverclyde Chamber of Commerce.

Councillor Michael McCormick, Inverclyde Council’s convener of environment and regeneration, and Councillor Elizabeth Robertson, who chairs the Inverclyde Alliance community planning partnership board, have wished Lizzy Todd success after she was announced as the new chamber president.

Ms Todd is the founder and managing director of local marketing company Tweetiepie Media and at 34 years old becomes the youngest female president in the history of the organisation.

Councillor McCormick said: “Inverclyde Chamber of Commerce does fantastic work promoting and supporting the area’s business community and I wish Lizzy all the very best in continuing that important work in her role as president.

“As a local entrepreneur herself, Lizzy knows exactly what makes businesses tick and what needs to be done to ensure businesses of all shapes and sizes can thrive.”

Ms Todd’s company has been a member of the Inverclyde Chamber of Commerce since 2013 and subsequently became a Board Member and Director of the Chamber in 2019.

She has helped deliver many of the chamber’s initiatives and build collaborative relationships with businesses within and outwith the Inverclyde area.

Councillor Robertson said: “Lizzy is a passionate advocate for Inverclyde who I’m sure will be a fantastic president and I look forward to working closely with her and all partners across the Inverclyde Alliance to create economic opportunities for the area.

“It’s particularly pleasing for me as a female councillor to see a young, female business leader taking on this role and in fact becoming the youngest to do so in the history of the chamber.”

Ms Todd replaces Mark Spragg as president after he stepped down following his two-year term on 22 June 2023.

She becomes the 131st president following a selection process by the Inverclyde Chamber Board, becoming the youngest female president of the organisation, which was incorporated by Royal Charter in 1813.
