Dr Liz Cameron OBE Appointed To The Board Of Inverclyde Leisure

Dr Liz Cameron

Inverclyde Leisure has announced the appointment of Dr Liz Cameron OBE as Board Director and Trustee. Liz is extremely influential in the Scottish business community, having established and run several businesses and spearheads the Scottish Chambers of Commerce as Director and Chief Executive.

The new appointment will help Inverclyde Leisure to continue to bring sports, leisure, and recreational activities to local Inverclyde communities.

Liz has a wide depth of experience and expertise covering internationalisation, business development, skills and education, and commercialisation. This has enabled her to gain a strong awareness, knowledge, and appreciation of the many challenges of operating a business whilst providing a high-quality service.

She is recognised as both a UK and Scottish leader and has gained many accolades during her career. Liz was awarded an honorary doctorate from the West of Scotland University for her work supporting businesses and was awarded the OBE for business development by the Queen in 2014.

Liz is the Chair of WEvolution, a nationwide initiative which supports individuals (particularly women) to take control of their lives and set up their own businesses. This has proven to be very successful in Inverclyde and is now being expanded into other parts of the UK and Europe.

She was also previously Vice-Chair of the Scottish Lottery Committee, where she demonstrated her enthusiasm in supporting and growing Inverclyde’s third sector through the development of a “My place” initiative. This initiative provided specific funding to enable Inverclyde communities to turn their ideas into reality.

Her UK and Scottish Senior Advisory Positions include membership of the UK Strategic Trade Advisory Group, Innovation Group, the Scottish Government’s Enterprise and Skills Advisory Board, Cross-party Trade Groups, and an advisory role to SDS/VisitScotland.

Through her continued work both in the Inverclyde community and in Scotland as a whole, Liz has become a sought-after commentator and the voice of Scottish business.

Born and bred in Inverclyde, Liz still lives in the area, despite her domestic and international career. She started her early career in Inverclyde, setting up the first-ever Inverclyde Enterprise Trust, gaining valuable experience in local companies before moving on to new challenges.

On joining the Board, Liz Cameron said:

“I am delighted and very honoured to have been appointed to the Board of Inverclyde Leisure Trust. It is a great opportunity for me to contribute to local developments.

“It is already a fantastic organisation, with great people who provide outstanding services throughout our communities.

“Inverclyde Leisure has many fantastic assets and I look forward to working with the other Trustees and the team to enable further growth, increased facilities, and investment, which will hopefully bring even more people into Inverclyde to experience what a fantastic area we work and live in.”

Bill Hawthorne, Inverclyde Leisure Chairman, added:

“We are happy to welcome Liz to the board. Liz is highly experienced and has a wealth of knowledge to help drive Inverclyde Leisure forward.”

Inverclyde Leisure’s board of directors is made up of four elected members from Inverclyde Council, one elected employee of Inverclyde Leisure, and five members of the business community.
