Inverclyde’s Industrial Market Continues To Thrive Thanks To Expansion For Tourism Business

Larkfield Industrial Estate in Greenock has welcomed its latest business following a new tenancy for a local tourism business, Go-Trek Roof Tent Hire.

Led by Inverclyde entrepreneur, Jamie Derrick the business has enjoyed a phenomenal two years of growth since its launch in 2020.

The vehicle roof-top tent hire company lets clients experience Scotland’s beauty in its rawest form, with the business developing a range of solutions for tourists looking for a unique experience.

Go-Trek’s hires make it easy for tourists to camp anywhere, with a range of solutions including vehicle hire with the tents attached or the ability to attach a roof rack to client’s vehicles, as long as it can support up to 75kg of dynamic load.

The vehicles are paired with 3-inch memory foam mattresses ensuring a better night’s sleep for campers all within their own tree fort.

Due to its ongoing growth, Jamie required a unit to be able to store and operate the business from, with the majority of the profits being invested back into the business to offer a wider range of vehicles, including a 7-seater mini-bus hire, camper vans, and even paddleboards.

Jamie (pictured above), who lives in Greenock, said: “We have enjoyed a phenomenal two years since launching and the business continues to grow in popularity.

“It has been vital for Go-Trek to establish a base from which to continue to grow from but finding the right premises locally has been difficult due to the lack of available space.

“As an avid camper and adventurer, the business is something I’m deeply passionate about, and I enjoy supporting visitors with my knowledge of places to visit across Scotland.

“We have clients coming from all over the world looking to hire from us to support their dream holidays, including the USA, Netherlands, Australia as well as people from the UK.”

Go-Trek enjoyed a particularly fruitful 2021 thanks to a rise in staycations in the UK due to the Covid-19 pandemic, with the trend continuing into this year.

“The most popular locations are generally locations along the North Coast 500 and the islands, including the Isle of Harris, but we’ve seen others use us for festivals and weekend getaways – we’ve even had people getting engaged” Jamie continued.

“Looking locally, we see great opportunities as a result of the Cruise Liners coming into Greenock and continue to develop our concept to provide services to this market.

“We’ve had great support from Bowman Rebecchi in finding somewhere for the business and we’d like to thank Andrew and Marco for all of their help in sourcing our new base.”

The latest letting brings the popular Industrial Estate up to full capacity, with all 75,000 square feet at Larkfield now occupied.

Andrew Bowman, Director of ICC Member, Bowman Rebecchi said: “This is a great result for Jamie and his business as we have been supporting Go Trek for the past 6 months.

“The business is a fantastic and clever concept, and it is great to see a successful local tourism business as the opportunities in this sector locally are clear to see.

“Inverclyde continues to be a highly popular location for industrial property and as a result, we continue to see high demand for new properties to let and purchase.

“We would like to wish Jamie and Go-Trek continued success and look forward to watching the business development in the coming years.”
