Scotland Meets Florida – FinTech Webinar

Scottish Development International (SDI), Enterprise Florida, Fintech Americas and Fintech Scotland are delighted to invite you to its Scotland Meets Florida event on Tuesday 8th February.

Join this virtual event to hear first-hand about the opportunities and trends in the finance/fintech sector in these respective locations, and obtain introductions to participating fintechs from both Scotland and Florida.

Scotland has long had an established heritage in Financial Services. The expertise in financial services and strength in technology provide the strong foundations that enable FinTech innovation and FinTech business success and growing expertise in Payments, Open Finance, Wealthtech and RegTech. Florida, and particularly Miami, is the 3rd largest cluster of insurance and banking companies in the USA.

Top players, such as: Citigroup, Blackstone, Goldman Sachs, Aberdeen Standard Investment, and innovative fintech such as Zilch (British digital payment solutions company), Nirvana (digital bank created by former CEO of Paypal), Majority and Fortù (hispanic digital bank) are based in Miami.

The appeal of Miami for fintech has been strengthened during the pandemic as many companies relocated there to provide better quality of life to their employees and benefit from access to talent as well as lower operational costs.

The Mayor of Miami, Mr Francis Suarez, has also been driving this growth by officially supporting Bitcoin and cryptos and aiming for Miami to be recognised as “The Capital of Capitals”.

This event brings together Scottish and Miami fintechs to hear more about emerging opportunities including information about a Scottish Trade Mission planned for March 2022 to Miami and NYC.

Speakers include:

  • Sophie-Lou Arcese Le Nir, Director of Enterprise Florida for the UK & Ireland – Overview of Florida and the support that Enterprise Florida can provide to Scottish companies.
  • Mr Ray Ruga, Director of Fintech Americas – Why Miami/Florida is a great location for fintech and particularly as a gateway to Americas and The “do & don’t” to be successful in the USA/Latin Americas.
  • Ms Nicola Anderson, CEO of Fintech Scotland – Overview of the opportunities in the Scottish finance and fintech sector.
  • Ms Diana Peralta, International Trade Consultant (Forth Valley and Inverclyde Chamber of Commerce) – Information on the in-person Scottish trade mission to New-York and Miami that will take place end of March 2022.
